LOVE: A Group Coaching Event

How Clean is Your Love?

Bee Gees, How Deep Is Your Love

“How deep is your love? How deep is your love? I really mean to learn”

This song came into my mind the other day. As this lyric, or earworm depending on how much you like this song from the Bee Gees, traveled in my head it catalyzed an inquiry for me.

I’ve share this before but just in case you don’t know, my intuition has given me nudges through song lyrics for a long time. I have more nudges than I could mention and the inquiries the song lyrics launch always bear fruit for my growth. I smile as I write this because my intuition crosses all genres of music.

This song’s lyrics came to me this way instead of the original authored lines, “How clean is your love. How clean is your love. You really need to learn.” Well, those words have sent me on a path of inquiry and reflection.

I love the topic of LOVE because the human experience is loaded with talk of this noun or verb the moment we come into this world. So, what is LOVE? To me it looks like everyone has their own definition and it’s constructed of many concepts or ideas. Granted I don’t know what the target or biggest definition is, but I like looking.

When I reflected on LOVE and who I love, I asked myself how clean do I love? What I noticed is, it varies. It varies for a variety of reasons, all of which live in my head as justifiable, but that feels like loving on a very poor quality.

My thoughts hold all kinds of conditions around love. These thoughts hold a lower quality of love because it’s loaded with expectations, hopes, desires, and a need for consistency, folded into its recipe. People need to show up a certain way, act a certain way, stay in my life for as long as I want them to, and serve up what I like. How crazy is that? It’s human for sure but not helpful for me in living in a peaceful feeling more of the time.

What’s even more interesting is when these people don’t match my recipe, I still love them. So, what’s up with all this conditional love manufactured in my head when I end up loving who I love? Once they are in my heart, I see that I love them anyway. They may not be in my life or even know that I love them, but I find I do. This is when my definition of love expands. Proof, it’s not determined on something outside of me or how they show up.

My inquiry continues; looking in the direction of what LOVE is. I’m learning and I thought I would share my current inquiry with you. I’m staying curious about the topic of LOVE and my hope is it teaches me how to love cleaner.
